Salad Cream on Yorkshire Puddings?! | The Roast Files with Lizzie Barnett

Is the Sunday roast worth saving? This week on The Roast Files, Lizzie is joined by commercial artist Clare Wright for a conversation that starts with roast beef and somehow ends up involving salad cream, Italian road maps, baklava, family traditions and whether Sunday dinner is really about the food at all. Clare loves roast dinners. Not just on Sundays either. Her perfect roast includes beef, peas, broccoli, roast potatoes, mash, honeyed carrots and parsnips, Yorkshire puddings and mint sauce. There is, however, one fairly serious complication. She is not much of a gravy person. Even worse, Clare admits she would happily put salad cream on a Yorkshire pudding. From there, the pair get into roast potato hatred, mashed potato, enormous roast dinner sandwiches, family food memories, doggy bags, Sunday traditions and why some of the best meals are really about the people around the table. Clare also reveals something slightly unexpected. Despite loving roast dinners, she does not actually serve them when people come over. Instead, she prefers relaxed sharing platters, good wine and food people can dip into while they talk. Which gives Lizzie the perfect opening for this week’s Sunday Swap. A Greek-inspired Sunday spread with warm bread, olive oil, balsamic, Greek salad, feta, tzatziki, grilled fish, wine and a little baklava to finish. There is only one slight problem. Lizzie’s original plan involved prawns. Clare is allergic to shellfish. The Roast Files is hosted by Lizzie Barnett and built around one deeply unpopular opinion. Lizzie hates roast dinners. Every episode, a new guest gets the chance to defend Britain’s traditional Sunday roast, share their food memories and try to convince Lizzie that she has got it completely wrong. In return, Lizzie brings a Sunday Swap to the table and tries to tempt them with something different. Expect food debates, family stories, restaurant chat, nostalgia and increasingly questionable opinions about potatoes. Hosted by Lizzie Barnett. Featuring Clare Wright.
