  I live offgrid 8 years now . In the Ozarks. I did not do it less than $10k.<br>But I stuck it out. <br>Cabin i built,well,woodstove,solar,old 4x4 truck. You can do it. But ya got to stay with it. If you leave on a cold night. Might not be anything to return to. Be smart .<br>If I &nbsp;has to do it all over. Maybe West Virginia . I tried Alaska when I was young,harsh.-50° is no joke.winters are long..good luck y&apos;all

  I bought a livable house on 4 acres with a water well and electricity in the high desert of Southern California for 60K. Had to be a cash buyer because the house was in too poor condition for a bank to lend on it. So I got it. Twelve years later, I am still here. I keep working on it and made it a great place to live. Weather in the winter never gets below freezing and summers are a dry heat at 80 to 100 degrees.

  If you have $10,000 buy a camper and start figuring out where you want to plant your roots by camping there and staying there long enough to figure it out or in the area

  Being a settler is a dying profession. The government has killed the settler in favor of the builder. Remove the government and I would have a real nice tiny home in less than 6 months. With the government my options are buy the land and wait until I am about to die and roll onto the land and go. And I am sure I would get a violation and fine for that.

  Price of land in Missouri (like everywhere) depends on the location. But there are many, many dying towns here where ain&apos;t nobody gonna give you guff.<br>If you want free heat build a sand battery. If you want water, catch the rain off your roof. You want a cheap house, look into building a PVC geodesic dome.
