Cleaning dust on compact systems is usually not very convenient. From what I’ve seen, the drawer-style design on the Beelink Me Pro could make that a lot easier, which should help improve the overall experience over time.

I personally got a current gen UGREEN NAS with 4 HDD slots and 2 SSD slots for cache if you use stock OS but if UGREEN stops updating it, I can install a alternative OS like for example I use for my CCTV system a old Dell Server with ZimaOS since it was cheaper to buy, I got the server with 128gb ECC RAM where I sold most of it, only leaving a single 16gb RAM because SMB protocol and saving incidents to that NAS doesn't use much RAM and from the sold modules I bought the UGREEN NAS with 4 Seagate R+ NAS HDDs to store my actual files on something more simple and reliable because I don't have time to troubleshoot hardware issues and since I don't want to pay for remote access via Smartphone App, UGREEN was the better choice, even offering 2FA app support which Synology for example doesn't offer

In 2026, Open Source is the BEST and SAFEST option; however, it can be a 'pain' to maintain as they require fair amount of technical 'know-how'. I personally prefer open-source and I would avoid US tech empires as I do not trust them at this point.

I'm brand new and looking at options (I'm not in a rush as I'm a few months away from action). I've built my own PCs in the past though the latest one I had built and probably will go that route in the future. So I feel like I'm right on the line between DIY and pre-built. I don't mind set up and config so long as it's pretty stable once the initial work is done. if it's something that needs weekly maintenance it's probably not a fit for me. I'm looking mostly for 1 to 2 users with significant media steaming and my biggest concern is I'm not finding any place that has a good current guide and kind of walks through how much do you actually save going DIY?

Finally since you mentioned NAS is not a backup what do you recommend for backup?

This video is older so I suspect I won't get any engagement on this comment but thanks to anyone that does decide to offer some thoughts.
