I respect the hell out of this video and it's blatant lack of perfection. This is how we learn. If you hid your mistakes there wouldn't be a ton of people in the comments adding their expertise. <br> My only note for people starting their way down the guitar modding rabbit hole is start on a GIO or something cheap. You'll make the same mistakes, they'll just be way less expensive mistakes.

My second wife used to build and stain furniture. Let the stain set on the wood longer. You might be trying to stain through a hard clear coat. If it weren't for that mother of pearl inserts on there, you could lightly sand that board and the stain would absorb into the wood. Great job brother.

Now THIS, Taylor. This is legit. Upgrading a new guitar with old technology because the new didn't jive with your playing. <br>And trying new technology in a familiar guitar. <br>NOT ordering one expecting to spend more money, often uselessly. <br>Right on! Great vid!๐ค๐ป

I've ebonized guitar fretboards a few times. You need to sand the fretboard down, making sure to be thorough about getting close to the frets themselves. Sand first, then clean with lighter fluid, then apply dye (I use black Indian Ink with an artists paintbrush) and leave for however long you feel is necessary. Repeat cleaning with a barely water-damp cloth/towel you don't mind ruining and reapplying dye until you're satisfied you've done enough, and then after that, just keep wiping the board with a barely damp cloth to make sure you've got all the excess dye off. Use mineral/lemon oil/whatever conditioner you prefer, and you're done.
