Perfect video for my parents. I had no idea an old FIT system could be augmented in this way - thank you!

Best thing I did has almost nuled my grid consumption March-nov and halved the other 3 months by using cheep night taraf.
Only proviso for someone thinking of this try and work out your consistent peek loads as the ac inverter output governs how successfully the benefits are.

A nice brick repair...

Small diameter core drills please when drilling inside to out. No need to risk blowing bricks and it keeps customers happy.

Always very interesting Mark, thank you.

My trip into solar started in October - so not the best season for input. One thing I would major on, whichever system you install, is that I would definitely install loads of battery capacity. There are many savings to be made from cheap overnight import for use later in the day - as well as exporting when sunshine is good (and I've found a really significant leap since the star of March with my own kit).

My initial thoughts were that you should install battery to match your average daily usage; but my thoughts are changing on that. I'd double that, or at least ensure your installation has space/scope ready to do so when you see what works for you.

My average daily use is around 10kWh, so I had one PowerWall3 (13.5kWh). I'm finding that I charge this at night (Octopus GO at 8.5p/unit), and run washer/dishwasher etc on 'delayed start' to run in the cheap period, but even with modest use, I only just make it through... I run a PHEV, but only low mileage (retired).

I'm going to have a second 13.5kWh unit fitted shortly so that I have full resilience as well as always running on cheaper power. If I have power to spare, I will export solar at 15p/unit during the day.

Obviously everyone will be different and will make their own calculations, but battery is a key feature for me.

When I drill a hole through a wall I use a pilot drill then run the big drill in 1/2 inch in on the outside then drill from the inside this stops the brick from blowing.

Great video. I'm looking for the cost of something similar to this system and the average payback time. I'm just down the road from you, well, about 17 miles in Pock. I might give you a call tomorrow.

Can you connect the inverter to a manual change over switch or is the gateway required to preform off grid mode .
