I want everyone to know that I found my missing tiles! I had failed to punch them out and went dumpster diving to find my punch board, but now my copy is complete.

All my frustration directed where it belonged - right back at me! Thanks to the guys at Asterisk for offering support and hanging out in the stream

I like how there was good discussion at the start, and at times throughout the game, on the layout choices especially. This game offers an unusual 'games design' element, for players to have relatively robust sandpit to experiment and learn about what may work, which isn't always what you think might work. It might prove to be a useful tool for 18xx game designers, to find inspiration and even intentionally construct something that they will end up making into a physical / historical map.

It also has some lovely fun elements, not least the cliff in this game.

This is the first time in quite a while I watched a video about a game I knew basically nothing about but came away completely invested. I may have to get this one as my first foray into 18xx. I’ve been leery of getting into the genre, but I was enamored with this playthrough. Especially so after hearing about its flexibility in game duration. Oh, and the game of building the map kinda rocks. So cool.

Thanks so much for the stream / introduction.

Thank you for your video covers, very few channel without generic overlighted IA on covers , miniatures...all YouTube is invaded with the same generic antiart. Is a pleasure to see your vid collection with your lettering coherent style. Keep doing please.

Pleased to hear Martin's had a chance to binge on 18xx, as a relative newcomer myself I am quite jealous lol. Jon mentioned the word obsession, and it's amazing how often that's what these games lead to.

They are however polarising (even amongst fans of the genre), and Martin's Agricola vs Viticulture comment is spot on in regards to how deep the differences run despite all these games looking almost identical at a glance.

I must say though I find the gatekeeping comments quite bizarre. Yes, some people have very strong preferences for certain types of 18xx over another (and why shouldn't they when the cost of entry is a minimum 4 hours?), but seldom do I see people saying you should or shouldn't or can or can't enjoy, play, or own x, y or z - and even if they did, that's obviously nothing anyone should concern themselves with.

Some discussions about these games can certainly be lively, but where some perhaps see aggression where, I'd describe it more like clarity - and personally I've found the classification debates quite useful in figuring out what's worth trying or buying... Which is nice, because these games are still very boutique in the grand scheme of things and definitely aren't cheap!

Circling back to Martin and his train games, would love to see some of his favourite cube-rails on stream one day.

I'm with Jon on this - won't actively look to play RotLA but happy that it exists as it brings new people to this corner of the hobby.

    3:58:32

I get you guys didn't want to nickel and dime the last round, but I do have a rules question to make sure I understand correctly. Shouldn't martin's Experiment have double bumped from paying out the second OR of round 5? Or did I miss something there? Which would have a cascade effect of purple shares being worth more at the end, benefitting martin, etc.

What a close game, and an excellent showcase! Even without any 18xx experience, I was able to follow along and think I've got a grasp on most of the rules. This game is now at the top of my wishlist! I'm off to go watch today's stream now and then maybe some of the old streams after that. I'm spoiled for content right now!
