I believe this car was actually supplied by Hebble Garage, Bradford Road , Huddersfield when new.

10 minutes. Totally agree with you. No one is teaching the kids these days how to fix. I have a modern car and my first car which is a 87 Honda flip up lights which I was given to me by my folks in 2005. Became the third owner. The modern car is so complicated with all it's electronics etc. my 87 so easy to wrench on all day everyday. The simplicity of old cars ❤. Miss it 😢

In 1980 I purchased my black Opel Manta 2.0L SR from a Dutch car broker near to the German/Dutch border. On the wall behind his desk, he proudly displayed a framed, panoramic photograph of the 50, yes 50, black Golf GTi cars he had sold to members of nearby RAF Wildenrath. They had parked them in a semi circle and the unit photographer had taken a photo specifically for the car dealer. It was quite impressive.

I had a Mk1/ 2nd Generation Golf "GX", A-reg, and drove between London and the NE every weekend for a year. Didn't miss a beat, amazing economy and lots of go. I only sold it due to relocating to Australia. What did I buy when I got to Sydney- a Mk 2 Golf. As of Today, I've had every generation bar the haptic-mad Mk 8, which I will abstain from buying. All up, 8 variants from the GX, to GTI, GTD, R and a humble Mk 1 "L" with an anaemic 1.6 petrol engine, which I bought for my daughter to learn to drive in. It made its way North to Cairns, lasted her through University and was sold for profit. Legacy motors, built well to enjoy and perform. No regrets apart from the DSG in my Scirocco.
