Nikon Zf and the 40mm f2 for travel is my jam if I want to travel light. One camera, one lens really forces the creativity and brings a cohesive look to all of the photos when I get home. Congrats on 13k subscribers, 100k by the end of the year!

I already read the newsletter, but the video was as interesting as ever! Thanks, Jack. The quality and thought you put into your videos always inspire me.

I just love your videos, the content is great, but what I appreciate the most if how intimate they feel, relaxing, almost like a meditation, a reflection about what it is we are looking to get out of our photography. You are different, fascinating, and talented. Thank you for these moments.

I really feel like the actual size of camera doesn’t make that much difference when traveling—rather it is a tiered system based on 1) how you carry it, and 2) lens. A Z8 or a Z30 worn across my body on a strap won’t significantly change my experience with similarly sized lenses. Weight is a factor, but when it is worn on a strap it becomes negligible. If it isn’t in a pocket, it is all the same.

10 minutes in and the Leica appears. Fantastic video. Planning my first Japan trip in nearly 20 years this May. It will be zf with 50mm f1.8 s and maybe a zoom in the one bag. Admire your stamina carrying all of that gear without a pack horse.

It is always great to see your thought process on traveling and how you pack, as many of us have a lot of cameras and it can be hard to prioritize what to take. Having the flexibility to crop with the Z8 looks really nice. I could see really favoring a 35 in that case and one other longer lens, like the 85. I feel like I am constantly trying new combinations when going on photos walks, switching from film, dslr, and mirrorless. It is a fun puzzle!

I have been fortunate to visit Istanbul and the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea for the last three summers. First trip I brought a Leica Q2. Loved it. Second summer I brought a Leica M11 with a 21, 35, and 75. Also loved it. On the third trip I brought a Nikon Z8, ZF, a 24-120, 100-400, 35, 28, and a 40. Packing all of that gear made me miserable. I took far fewer photos than prior years and the photos I did take were uninspiring. I think one camera two lens setup is the way to go. Maybe a 21 or 28 <s>and</s> a 35 or 50.

I actually bought a ZF partly after watching your video as a Fuji user. Your move to Z8 made me think twice about my decision but ultimately that still feels to be a bigger camera to me as it reminds me of lugging a DSLR prior to my move to Fuji. Keep up the good work and hope your back survives all the camera gear you bring along.

Just before watching this video, I packed my gear for a weekend trip to Nanjing. Still mulling over my lens choices. I have the Z8 and Z6. Really, I just love using the Z8. Daytime, the 24-120 z just for family flexibility, but this time I will carry the 100-400 and break out of the habit of boring photos and try to capture some characters. Evening, I will go for 15-30mm f2.8 and a 50mm f1.4. Two of these lenses I hardly use. I suggest you take your next trip without the 85mm. To force yourself away from that lens, but.... also because I am not sure the subject suits that focal length. I feel you need to get closer or isolate simple geometries and colors with a longer focal length. Just my thoughts. Looking forward to the next video!
