I believe it was the warrior/poet Charlie Brown who once said, "Good Crieff!".

Love this format of presenting history of Scottish towns Bruce so yes please, do keep showcasing them. I haven’t visited the Crieff and Strathearn museum yet, however I’ve added to my ‘must visit’ list. Great video as always 😊

Very interesting. The German POW did not return to Germany until 1970 because his home was in part of Poland by the end of the war. He left £384,000 to the people of Comrie when he passed in 2013.

Your discussion of the piped water was something I liked, because it's a topic I've often thought about. How much our current world simply ASSUMES good management of water, and essentially endless supplies about it. How much we take for granted the energy and ingenuity that has gone into creating a reliable water system. Two decades ago, I was living in Texas, and there were torrential rains. But the city I was living in did not experience flooding, because a hundred years before, a choice was made to make a spillway for runoff excess water with twice the capacity of what anyone thought would ever be needed. That spillway was brimming almost to the top when the rains came, but it didn't go over the top. Our city's water remained uncontaminated. The water pipes remained intact. Not a single day went past without clean, drinkable water. Because a century before, someone went to the trouble of making the capacity for handling disaster twice as big as what anyone thought would be expected. I don't even know who the guy's name was, but it was certainly one person who made that choice. And in Crieff, there must have been one person who made a choice to create water pipes for the town. His choice was copied by hundreds or even thousands of city planning engineers around the world, and so most place we go, there is piped water available on demand. What an amazing world he made by that choice.

Thankyou so much, I'm hugely enjoying these talks. My historical education growing up was shamefully Anglo-centric with very little time given to Scottish history. Many thanks for opening the door for me.
