  It really is impressive how Robert the Bruce had almost complete control over the enemy&apos;s movements at Bannockburn. The English front line had no choice but to run headfirst into a big spiky wall, the troops in the back were unable to to much about it as there was almost no way to get any kind of feint or flanking maneuver going, and the only place the archers could go to be effective was in a spot where they were quickly swept off the battlefield. If there ever was a textbook example of how crucial the choice of terrain is to winning a battle, this would certainly be it.

  What makes the story of Scotland and England so compelling is that it&apos;s far more than a series of famous battles. Learning the full story gives so much more meaning to names like William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Excellent documentary 🥰

  The spider story is VERY similar to &nbsp;the one involving Alfred the Great while he was hiding in the marshes from the Norsemen. <br>In his version, Alfred watches a spider try over and over again to catch an edge while hanging from its thread, until finally achieving it in order to continue building. This of course inspires Alfred to keep fighting and retake his lost kingdom. I’m pretty sure I’ve read that Alfred’s story is thought to be apocryphal, so the Bruce one very likely is too.<br><br>No cake burning story to compare however! Lol
