Austin, I wholeheartedly believe the reason Rockstar delayed GTA 6 was because they were scared about your in depth video essay on some obscure detail. So thanks.

As an electrician, I thought, “This could never happen because of voltage drop” then around the 15-minute mark, you actually explained it. Subscribed instantly. You’re spot on, man no one does it like you.

Red dead took 8 years to make, was released in 2018, and is still a modern day masterpiece with more detail then most new games. Imagine how good GTA VI will be.

I actually worked at the development studio behind RDR2, and it’s amazing to see players noticing these kinds of details. We spent countless hours researching and building the world to make it feel authentic, even down to things most players might never notice. That house with the cut power line and the candles is exactly the type of small touch we cared about. Really glad you pointed it out, it makes all the effort worth it!

The mixed lighting in Saint Dennis was definitely the most impressive part of this video for me. That's actually an insane level of attention to detail.

Environment artist in the industry here! While I don't work at Rockstar, I can probably touch on the workflow artists go through and why they are so incredibly detailed and realistic. It was probably a single environment artist's job for a month straight - 8 hours a day - 5 days a week - to do nothing but add lighting models throughout the game. They were likely allowed to take full ownership of the task, and when you're an artist and you are given full ownership and freedom of a task like this, its just FUN to do research and figure out exactly how this stuff used to work. Its a history lesson, but it also makes crafting your environment art props that much more fun.

10:36 not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet, but that train tack also ends right there in Chapters 1-6 of the main story as Arthur in 1899. When you play as John in the epilogue (1907) it's extended.

you say "they didn't have to do this, nobody would have noticed" but this video is proof that people would have noticed. and I love that.

I love how every time Austin reads the scripted part of the sponsors it feels like he's literally reading it for the first time
