  I can’t help but think that only the Lord God of Heaven could grace us with such a powerful animal. What a horse we were fortunate to witness. I still remember my mother screaming at the tv, all 3 races. <br>They must have bet money on him because we got a motor home and snowmobiles shortly afterwards. We never asked but years later as an adult I was able to figure it out. Sadly though this was a curse as well my mother went in to lose millions over 2.5 decades. She passed broke. She still was my mother I lived her. But that’s my memory and I can’t lie about it.

  What you described about winning the Triple Crown is exactly what I remember people saying and writing. &nbsp;Citation had won it before I was born. &nbsp;It seemed almost unattainable. &nbsp;A horse I remember from the early 70s was Canonero II. &nbsp;He won the first two legs, but faded in the Belmont. &nbsp; Secretariat&apos;s performance in the Belmont as a &quot;tremendous machine&quot; still gets to me every time. &nbsp; That horse had the heart of a champion, both physically and mentally.

  Secretariat and Sham shared a maternal grandsire, Princequillo. &nbsp;Sham also inherited tremendous heart size. His was 18 pounds compared to Secretariats 22 pounds. &nbsp;Amazing to have to brilliant animals come in the same year.

  Some leftover! The experts looked at the father. Not realizing he had a mother. Mom gave Secretariat his big oversized heart.
