  another thing for me is TAKE NOTES especially if ur starting to make ur own/modify patterns! and don't be afraid of frogging :)

  Acrylic yarn is fantastic for structural designs (hats, bralettes, corsets, amigurumi). If that is not what you want to make, use a different yarn. And don't be afraid of using more than one type of yarn in your projects

  I like math, and it shows in my hobbies. Crochet is algebra, and sewing is geometry. If you aren't a math person, follow the pattern.

  1 Don&apos;t be afraid to Frog - &nbsp;BUT, beware of fluffy yarns, or yarn with texture - they&apos;re virtually impossible to frog.<br>2. Thin yarn worked with a bigger hook than recommended also makes beautiful drapey fabric.<br>3. If you&apos;re working something you need to put away for some time, make a note of the hook size and pin it to the work, or drop it in the bag before you put the work away! It saves a LOT of head scratching when you go back to it.<br><br>Thank you for your video - great tips.

  Another thing to add to the last point is don&apos;t be afraid to frog a project you don&apos;t like. I&apos;ve made countless tops or cardigans that I just didn&apos;t like and instead of dwelling on it or wasting the yarn I just frogged it and winded it back up to use later.

  what’s helped me learn fast is trying a different project every time! I did a jellyfish, 6 day star blanket, mini skirt, bra tops, hat, scarf, shorts etc

  #5 is sooo real, anything worth learning is worth failing at. I remember when I started three years ago I just looked in the mirror and said &quot;you better get used to frogging, you&apos;ll be doing it A LOT&quot; 😂😂

  I&apos;m a computer science student who loves to craft. I love that you brought up how relying heavily on patterns is bad for your growth. There&apos;s a whole term for that concept in the computer science world: tutorial h*ll. It refers to someone who only ever learns by following a coding tutorial and never takes the risk associated with coming up with and making a project on your own. Maybe the crafting world could use it (or something similar), too?

  my best tip for learning to freehand is don’t be afraid to look stuff up. figuring out why you’re making a mistake can be so much easier with help, and it doesn’t take away from you making your own design. (and by look stuff up i mean how to switch colors or make a certain stitch, not a whole section of your piece)
