  Recently ran for school committee in my small conservstive town as an openly trans person. I came in 6th place of a 6 person race. But I remembered that the first time Harvey Milk ran, he came in 10th. Im already planning my campaign for next year

  I know this video is focused on America but shout out Marcela Gracia Ibeas and Elisa Sánchez Loriga. Spanish lesbians who got married in 1901 by posing Elisa as a man. They eventually got caught and fled Spain but the marriage certificate was never annulled making it the oldest legally binding gay marriage in history

  I have been part of several failed rights campaigns. The problem with rights campaigns is that they assume people are rational and logical. Rights movements have to understand that they need to create heroes (whether real or fictional) while the opposition obviously and always creates villains. The good versus bad is there in the rights movement&apos;s favor. It just doesn&apos;t know it.

  Recently i found footage of me and my brother (rest in peace) of us shutting down traffic in Hollywood during prop 8 and i cried thinking of what it all meant today and how my brother Jesse (he was my chosen family who escaped his evangelical home in the early 2000s) would grieve the state of things today. Thank you for this video Matt, it’s a triumph

  I ain&apos;t even a marriage person but it made me so emotional seeing all the couples rushing and lining up to get married once the ruling came down. ❤
