  I&apos;m not done watching the video yet but one of my favourite stories Lucille Ball ever told was that apparently Carole Lombard appeared to Lucille in a dream after Carole had died and told her quote &quot;give television a whirl.&quot;.

  This was so interesting! I feel part of why the 50&apos;s gets so heralded as &quot;the golden age&quot; is because it&apos;s when far more people entered the middle class and got to enjoy these new developments like colours on screen and it seemed like endless positivity for the future, &nbsp;for everyone. So naturally, they project those feelings onto the media of the time too<br><br>And yes, &nbsp;if people haven&apos;t seen &quot;some like it hot&quot; they 100% should, &nbsp;it&apos;s so good

  Ironically, Lucille Ball would have loved nothing more than to continue doing movies, but her TV portrayal was her one uncontested success after all those years of almost making it in theatrical films. Unfortunately, having finally gotten to the top, she clung on to the &quot;Lucy&quot; persona so that she wasn&apos;t able to play anything else, to the detriment of subsequent film appearances.

  Can we hear more about labor relations in hollywood? &nbsp;The studios owned the stars back in the day and worked them super hard, like Lucille Ball talked about. &nbsp;But now, there&apos;s unions all up and down the industry. &nbsp;That sounds like a good story.

  My great grandfather owned the only movie theater in pikeville Ky in the 20s and 30s. Maybe I should try to connect with some family from that side to see if they have any of those old films but the theater was a front for his moonshine running 😅 so idk how serious he was about it

  The crazy thing is, I think the television code was even more restrictive than the Hays code was. Lucy couldn&apos;t even use the word &quot;pregnant,&quot; and my dad remembers someone getting blacklisted for using an euphemism for &quot;toilet.&quot; Showing real-life people getting murdered was apparently okay as long as it was on a news program, though.<br>Sometimes I wonder if we&apos;re regressing.

  Swofford, I love you Buddy, and I&apos;m happy to be a subscriber, but would you please leave the text on-screen just a bit longer? &nbsp;I like the extra information, but I&apos;m getting tired of pausing, backing up the video, waiting for the text to reappear, sometimes missing it, backing up again, pausing again, reading the text, and then resuming the video just for it to happen again thirty seconds later. &nbsp;It drives me right out of the immersion. &nbsp;Please and thanks, and as always, excellent work my friend.
