In this Bonsai video I show you how to style Japanese Larch Bonsai! Japanese Larch are a popular choice for Bonsai because of their delicate foliage, versatility in pruning and their cold hardiness. I explain the process of selecting the optimal front for each tree, provide a comprehensive overview of the essential bonsai tools required for styling Japanese Larch, and delve into specific design options, particularly focusing on creating the classic triangular shape characteristic seen in many Bonsai. I discuss the importance of energy distribution in Japanese Larch, emphasizing the need to prune rigorously at the apex to redirect energy to weaker lower branches. I also demonstrate proper branch removal techniques to avoid inverse taper and cover the intricacies of wiring Japanese Larch before proceeding to styling. I explain my approach to repotting, especially useful when dealing with trees planted in overly compact soil. This video is designed to be easy to follow and is particularly beginner-friendly! The Japanese Larch (Larix Kaempferi) is an amazing tree for beginners also as they can bounce back from drastic work and you can achieve great development in a short space of time. Throughout all the seasons they have a special charm - from vibrant green foliage in spring and summer to stunning golden hues in autumn, ultimately revealing the tree's elegant structure in winter.
