I don't know how YouTube knew this, but I desperately needed this video. I had no clue how to properly apply moss to my bonsai. Laid some strips of harvested moss on the soil and kept watching it dry up. Super frustrating. But now I know! Thank you for this super instructive video!

food processor is definitely the move for chopping lots of spagnum. I'm out here shredding blocks of dry spagnum by hand with my soil sifter, it sucks 😂 one technique I enjoy for applying the moss is using either a small bucket or open-mouthed watering can and making a really wet slurry of moss and water. Then, gently 'pour' the moss on top of your substrate and you'll get a really nice application and I find it to be quicker than applying by hand. it quickly meshes itself down into the nooks and crannies so it forms that unified topdressing layer faster. I just got done topdressing all my prebonsai for the season, it makes such a big impact on repotting recovery speed and surface root development
