Life goals: to have so much princess energy that I can summon butterflies, and specifically only butterflies, not bees, ants or anything else.

In Ruyi, the Emperor’s obsession and lust with poor Xiangjian was so creepy. He was acting like a schoolboy in “love” 😆 I felt so bad for her and Ruyi.

I’m pretty glad that the legend of the fragrant consort is not true. The way it seems to be portrayed is incredibly creepy. For her husband to be killed in a war, then captured and brought to the emperor like a prize, harassed for years, and eventually dying because she refused to submit to the one who ordered your husband‘s death would be a truly horrific thing. And then for it to be shown as a love story… Well, maybe it was for the emperor, who would have held all the power.

I much prefer reality for this legend. I hope the real consort lived happily, or at least peacefully.

She was 26 when she was given to Qianlong? Interesting that she was so much older than other women we hear about entering the harem. It's nice to hear of someone who at least was not forced to marry as a child.

Not gonna lie I prefer the actual story of Consort Rong over the legend, She at least live in comfort and pampering of the emperor at the same time allowed for her to practice her faith. ❤

If I understand correctly, Hoca or Hoja or Haji is not a name per se, but a title of a person who undertook the Hajj to Maccah. However, in certain cases this title passes by to his descendants as a part of a family name. That's why in Central Asia the suffix -Hoca or -Hocayev after the family name is so common.
Overall, a very interesting story. Thanks for bringing it up and clearing possible confusions.
As for the fake tomb - it is a rather surprisingly common custom among Central Asians. I remember visiting Kazakh city of Taraz/Djambul. When I visited the Qara Han mausoleum, my friend told me, that she knows that the real location of his tomb was never actually found, as he (similar to Cengiz later) ordered everybody who buried him to be killed to prevent his real grave from robbery and desecration. The mausoleum in the city, instead, is a largely symbolic monument to bring memories of him close to his people.

I wonder if, like Consort Jia, because Consort Rong was a foreigner, she was able to enjoy a higher status due to the fact that her children would never pose a threat in succession battles.

I truly appreciate the detailed name information shown onscreen! There's both the Chinese text, the transliteration with the tones! and the Anglicized version, each and every time a name is mentioned. Wow!

Folks, let's hype this one up.

History is rife with tragedies of women going through hardships and terrible fates.

Relieved that for once, the actual story is happier than the legend! So happy for Rong☺️
