  I recently went to Warhammer World and saw some of the box art, and codex art in person. . . I was really surprised to see mistakes and large flat surfaces on miniatures, that had great contrast and were perfect in the pictures, their photography team have been doing some great work. . . I actually think a lot of my painting was as good, and in some cases even better than the ones used in their publications.

  This is a great video. I definitely get into my own head about my painting not being good enough or subpar even though I’ve only been doing it seriously since December. It’s nice to hear reassurance that I’m not terrible lol.

  True words! This also applies all the wonderfully painted miniatures you see on social media. This can cause a beauty-bias similar to instagram girls... In many cases you see just the cherry picks of professionals, so comparisons to your own everyday are a nice touch :D

  If I'm not mistaken they sometimes do not paint the backside for box art. Imagine commissioning really good half painted minis lol.

  I will tell you my story : I painted a lot when i was a teenager...and I got back to this hobby after more than 20 years...and incredibly enough after a few minis I noticed I still had it...I am now in a weird place where my results are increfibly close to heavy metal (but yes...it takes so much time) I am slowly realizing that this method is not sustainable...and I am trying to have a more simple approach with my new empire army...the problem for me is COLORS ! I just need a reference...and to be honest I can't seem to appreciate a color scheme different from what I see in the box art...they just seem like the perfect colors...so for me it's not a matter of techincal issues rather (as much as I hate to admit it) a difficulty in accepting a new color spin to the miniature
