First-rate documentary. May I recommend to all interested viewers Anthony Burgess's brilliant novel A Dead Man In Deptford? Burgess had a life-long obsession with Marlowe which culminated in one of his masterpieces, written against the clock as he was already ill with cancer. But what a swansong! His Elizabethan London with its plotters, informers, denunciations, torture and death is reminiscent of Stalin's Moscow. Oh and let's not forget Burgess's equally gripping Shakespeare novel Nothing Like The Sun, written over thirty years earlier. PS, I've always been tickled by the fact that Will's father was a glover and Kit's a cobbler - strikingly similar professions. I look forward to watching more of your documentaries!

Good documentary of the kind no longer provided by TV. I think he was assassinated by these govt. agents. Shakespeare<br>was under Marlowe's shadow, but learned to overcome it, by structuring his plays differently: the mighty line and the strong anti-hero were tamed by a more equable temperament; leaving the difference between shooting star and star.

Such a gripping documentary. I studied Dr. Faustus as one of the set works for my English A Level back in 1982-84. Something like this would have truly helped my appreciation of it!
