I always felt that Quint's trauma and survivors guilt contributed to his irrational and reckless behaviour, culminating in him rejoining his lost shipmates by dying in the same manner.

I think why the movie still works is because its a slow burn, but its still not boring.<br>Something always happens or we are waiting for it to happen.<br>Its a masterclass of pacing.

When this movie came out, what happened to the Indianapolis, had JUST been declassified. A mother of one of the sailors thanked Spielberg and Shaw, because before she'd seen this movie, she didn't know how her son had died. (She didn't know it had finally been declassified.)

Bad news for you guys, the bull shark which is one of the most aggressive sharks can live in freshwater. They have been caught 1700 miles up in Mississippi.
