I think you are 100% spot on with. Once an anathema is attached to something the burden of proof for that claim sits squarely on the one declaring the anathema.

Gavin on the ‘softening’ of Anathemas: “So I find it strange when people act like I’m making too much out of anathemas or Nicea 2. It kind of feels like someone burns your house to the ground, steals all the money out of your bank account, and then says, ‘Why are you making such a big deal out of this?’”

🔥🔥🔥🔥

A gentleman I am. I see a Gavin Ortlund video, I leave whatever I do, I click on the video, I watch and edify myself. God bless you immensely 🙏❤️✝️

As a recently ex-Catholic I can tell you it’s such a relief knowing I don’t need to be waiting for the next dogmatic pronouncement from Rome, because only the Bible is infallible.

As a protestant I 100% agree with your closing remarks. My allegiance is to Christ period. Not to a church, an institution or a tradition.

Thank you Dr Ortlund, for being one of the more intellectually tactful and gracious voices among Protestant apologists as well as within the reformed tradition. Seems like some of our brighter reformed minds are too busy being seminary professors to engage these topics.

I’m confident after looking through these comments, two things are almost always true:

1) No one commenting ever watches the whole video and/or is motivated to understand the arguments

2) Many Catholics have they’re own “ecclesial” presuppositionalism that unfortunately limits sincere dialogue

28:20 That is such a great insight about the Eucharist. I have been a member of low churches for years and I do think we greatly undervalue the Eucharist/Communion/Lord's Supper. Return the Eucharist to the center of the church, Dr Ortlund!

I pray you maintain your grace and patience in defending yourself in the age of the internet. You have such a strong voice in the Protestant Christian community as both a spiritual leader and a historical scholar. I am not a good enough person to defend myself against these criticisms with the grace that you have. It's very encouraging.

Your videos are so helpful. I was born and raised in charismatic circles, and often Roman Catholics are straw manned and thrown out immediately as legalistic heretics. Your channel has been an amazing help in understanding where Roman Catholics are coming from and building a bridge for respect, honor, love and peace.

You do a great job condemning Protestant strawmanning, while encouraging humble and gracious Protestants when interacting with others.
