"I thought you were dead." God that line means so much more when you know the full story.

my theory is that the kids did a ritual that would "fix"a drought
Causing the flood, bringing about the demonic creatures and the war. haunted by this they plan on undoing the ritual
They however never reach the well again; they might be"immortal" in an eternal cycle of death and pain and coming back, tying to the gruesome death scenes and respawning ingame.
Like a purgatory in life.
The creatures know that if they join together they can undo this so they keep separating them

I hope the dlc will make the story a bit clearer. The theory you made here makes the most sense so far.
Also Lamb.

In someway, isn't the girl a 'sacrificial lamb'?

Actually, the brother said "he thought she was dead', not the sister. He thought his sister was dead in the ocean cause she wasn't moving for a moment.

The horse abomination is the "second seagull abomination" that you shot with the cannon

The seagull abomination is a pelican abomination

12:23 I almost feel like its more akin to a stork instead of a seagull or pelican, with its weird lower beak bits. The stork would make the actual secondary meaning alot weirder and darker.

 0:25
actually a considerable amount of dialog between characters was scrapped out of the game. a shame because i would welcome dialog that makes the plot easier to understand and flush out the personality of the kids

21:29 another thing that suggests they are in the orphanage is the wood thing they put their blood in for the ritual is one of the wooden dolls that appears all over in the orphanage (and only in the orphanage)

Have you noticed the hung soldiers at 19:01 have circles on their chests, while The Boy has a square on his chest?
