Nice item, and looks well-designed.

I have a similar HP probe from ~1980. But, it's AC only, and doesn't have a signal output to scope. The sole indication of current level is given by the brightness of a tiny incandescent lamp in the tip! But, it's very handy for finding shorts, and seeing where current is flowing. Came with a pulse injector "probe", which can be used to provide a current source when tracing shorts.

Great video. I love the length and how you get into details. Also the annotations are a good idea.

Very cool real-world demo of the path of least resistance.

Dave, this might be a magnificent tool for one's oscilloscope, but its price ( USD 800 ) is totally out of the reach of a common workshop, technician or student. Anyway, thanks for your clear explanation of the physical principles involved.

Not at all suited for absolute measurements, but very well suited for visualizing current waveforms without having to break a wire or making actual contact with the system you're measuring. Especially the high bandwidth of the thing makes it interesting... Thank you for the review. :)

This can be used for finding shorts.

Flux gate magnetometer, I need to use that in my book!
@thomasw6169 · 4 years ago
Just for information: The delivered power supply is 5.0 volts. With a makeshift USB cable I can power the probe directly from my scope.

The whole world and their pet seem to want to be here! Yep some fantastic scientists can still be found in this once great country.

I guess there's a flux gate magnetometer in my cable locator. We put a signal on the cladding then find it! ( it also measures current and that baffled me)Thanks for the video for better understanding.
