What's holding you back from starting to train right now?

I turned 60 on the Camino with a great group of global friends I met on the journey. I’m training now (for a year and a half) to re-attempt the Pacific Crest Trail in 2028…the goal being to finish it while I’m still 70. I’m having fun with epic decade markers!

I’m 61 and I’m dedicating 12 mths to training. I don’t care how long it takes - for me now it’s about the journey.

I’m 73 with Parkinson’s, and this is a great video. I’m having difficulty walking, but you video has motivated me to move forward. Thanks!

Find this very helpful. I am starting to train now September for an April walk. We've decided to walk from Porto for the first walk but already plan to walk the Frances for the next walk! Love your videos!

Consider using water filled bottles as weight when starting. The benefits are you can use for thirst, cooling off and you can reduce pack weight by just dumping water.

Bravo! My wife (68) and I (71) walked our first Camino, the Primitivo last spring, 6 months after I had meniscus repair surgery. We did about a month of training in January by walking 6-12 km a day building up to 30 kms. Then I had a medical issue and couldn’t resume walking and hiking until 3 weeks before we started at the end of April. We had planned a rest day in Lugo but felt good and decided to press on. My right knee hurt a bit on downhills but we completed the pilgrimage with no blisters or any other issues. Soreness was constant after the 2nd day, but a caña at the end of the day was something to look forward to! We are doing the Portugues, Inglés and a short section of the Mozárabe in 2027, if all goes well.

You two are SO delightful. It’s a pleasure to meet you. It would be fun to be actually saying those words on the Santiago walk. You have inspired me. This idea has to percolate through my brain for a month or two. I had never seriously considered making the walk, but now maybe I will.

Thanks, folks. I really appreciate your level-headed advice. I was a competitive athlete when I was younger, and I concur that in my 60s recovery is the hardest part. I'm looking at doing the Camino to celebrate my 65th birthday. Thank you for the inspiration. 🤩
