“Breach is a record that looks both forward and backward, this is who we were, and who we are, and both are okay.” possibly my new favorite tøp video essay ever ugh I love when people understand this band on the deepest level

Josh is literally torchbearer in real life. Convinced Tyler to even not give up on songs on the real world. Along with tally that he convinced Tyler to keep as well.

The fact that most of the songs Josh convinces Tyler to put on albums turn out to be some of the most popular on the albums (routines, downstairs, etc) is hilarious

He no longer wants to keep his faith downstairs.
He wants it to be evident.

In the song he was actually hiding his faith. I believe when he said he changed he's no longer hiding his faith. It goes back to when he was questioning God and questioning how he should express his beliefs. Now he doesn't have those questions anymore and feels comfortable sharing.

this video made me emotional. there's something really raw about hearing tyler sing something in current day that his younger self wrote. it feels like he's saying "i see you, i hear you still, and i'm here to show you that you'll survive whatever you're suffering." considering the entire message of the band about staying alive despite hardship, it really hits. immediate favorite for this vid. i'll come back to watch it again fr.

Downstairs is literally my favorite song on Breach. Also, the "I've changed" is definitely not saying he is stepping away from his faith. Drag Path and Days Lie Dormant make that pretty clear if you ask me

As a Christian who studies relation of his lyrics and their connection to biblical Truths and doctrines. . .
There's a LOT of reworded quotes to saving faith like being born again, being saved, trusting, being washed clean (sanctified is purified like raw gold in a fire, as dross is removed), there is still that core faith, but it is tainted by **doubt**, questioning, and often being deceived by either yourself or others.
I see a lot of that in their songs. More than i thought.
Backslide, Addict with a pen, doubt, and Drown is a GREAT example of this.

He certainly wouldn’t include the song if he straight didn’t believe the message anymore.

I mean he also has a LOT of "strike me down cuz I'm worthless" in those lyrics.
"Have I forced your hand?
Am I unholy land?
Broken and wretched one
Etc"
He's also BEGGING for mercy. These are not the lyrics of someone who is confident in their faith, as he seems to be now, considering Center Mass
