I have raised a large heard of alpacas for over 20 years and I just want to thank you for this amazing video. I have had to come to the rescue of many poor mishandled, neglected and abused alpacas. I wish you would have touched on the fact of having to put down an animal, hoping to get a vet to come to the farm (or transporting it 3 hours away to an animal hospital) and having a place to dispose of the body. The heart ache of doing this is a part of farm life but it never gets easier. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

Raising Alpacas was on my bucket list. But I'll cross them off and write in goldfish.

And actually, seriously, if you want a source of really soft, easily harvestable fiber year round that doesn't kick you, Get A Golden Retriever! "Chiengora" yarn is totally a thing and goldens are ideal for it.

Save a bucket of money by flying to Peru and buying a bunch of alpaca wool stuff.
You're welcome! 😉

Alpacas and Huskies. Two things I’m glad other people have, so I can marvel at them on the internet, and not have to deal with in real life! 😂

This was so fun, I laughed out loud several times. Elite editing, writing, and story telling. Edutainment at its best, thank you for making and sharing.

Anne, I found a gem in your video: "Anytime you take an animal out of it's natural habitat and try to make it do something it wasn't naturally designed to do, you're going to be fighting nature every step of the way". This is more than a helpful tip. It's a life lesson, because it applies to humans too.

We did an alpaka walk in early November here in the East Austrian countryside (not where the mountains are). The farmer has some 40 alpakas. He said he made most of his money with alpaka walks, especially because he has enough alpakas for a school class. He only makes ca € 1000 ($ 1160) per year with the wool, and most of it goes into cushion stuffing, isolation pads etc. He said black and brown alpaka wool never makes it to yarn but black yarn is from white alpakas and then dyed. He had cattle for meat before and was very happy about cleaning the alpaka stable because they all poo in one spot. Cattle don't. He said he doesn't slaughter his alpakas but others do and sell the sausages. Most of his stallions are castrated because they didn't let go even of the lambs.

We have 7 alpacas and you are 100% right on all of that. They're basically just large fluffy expensive pets haha
