  This recording completely spontaneous. Ray made it up on the  spot, and  back up singers ad libed. this has  got to be one of the finest rock and  roll/ R and B  records ever  made. Played keys in band  and played and sang hundreds of times [even wore  sunglasses  lol], always got every on up on the dance  floor.

  One evening way-way back some 40+ years ago, a little bored, a lady-friend and I decided at the last minute to go see Ray Charles perform at a music hall, surprised to see not that big of a crowd there, but way more surprised how good the show was. Like any truly great performer, Ray Charles was so much better live. Wow. We were stunned. Ray with a great band playing music with an energy that was palpable, and everybody there dancing! One of those moments in life we didn’t know we’d regret if we had missed it, but glad we didn’t. And we weren’t bored anymore...

  Ray Charles was at a gig when he ran out of music before he ran out of time. He invented &quot;What&apos;d I Say&quot; on the spot. He just started playing and told his backup musicians and singers to follow along. He had to stick to a standard blues progression so the other musicians could keep up.<br><br>The people at the concert wanted to know what the song was called so they could buy the record, but of course there was no record yet because he had just created it. He didn&apos;t even have a title.   Great to see Ray Charles long play version reacted to. &nbsp;But, when you lazily try to join in singing, you&apos;re doin&apos; it for you-self, not for us.
