  My best friend was in a band in the late &apos;80s, fronted by a former member of James Brown&apos;s band. So cool for him to work with a horn section at that point in time. <br>I still remember a trip back to WA from and OR gig with my friend, the keyboardist and the fighting rooster he&apos;d acquired at the gig. The bird was barely contained in a cardboard box and the keyboardist kept agitating it, making for an interesting trip from the driver&apos;s seat, wondering when that bird was going to break free and tear us all up.

  Michael Tilson Thomas used to urge orchestras to listen to JB&apos;s &quot;Cold Sweat&quot; to understand what he wanted from them in terms of attack and cohesion. There&apos;s a clip on his website called &quot;We Were Playing Boulez, but We Were Listening to James Brown,&quot; in which he talks at length about Brown&apos;s music--it incorporates his interview with JB. (There&apos;s a transcript of the interview at Classical Voice SF under the title &quot;The Maestro and the Godfather.&quot;)<br>Also, one of Stravinsky&apos;s students gave him a JB album for his birthday, thinking of it as a gag gift, but Stravinsky adored it and it didn&apos;t leave his turntable for weeks.

  &quot;Can You See The Light&quot; &nbsp;James Brown yells across the church congregation to John Belushi, as he is illuminated by a beam of light from Heaven. &nbsp;(1980 Blues Brothers Movie) Best musical ever. &nbsp;Every scene in that movie is filled with Blues Masters from the 50&apos;s and 60&apos;s. Aretha, Cab Calloway, Hooker, Ray Charles... &nbsp;Excellent movie, great music and dance + extremely funny.
