That whole Appalachian adage of, "If you hear someone calling your name at night, no you didn't," is a reimagined leucrotta.

Our DM created a creature like this and by god it was terrifying.
We never knew if he actually ate his victims or absorbed them in some way because he not only repeated the phrases he heard but also composed new phrases, but with pronunciation errors like someone learning a new language.
The bard was the first one he caught, imitating the voices of three women having sex in a barn.
Not only did he use voices, he also used costumes and tools.
On a moonless night, what appeared to be an old woman dressed in a ragged, loose-fitting tunic emerged from a shack in the village. "Please, my lord," said the old woman whose face we could never see, "my grandson is suffering from the plague, please, my lord, help him," she continued while offering us a small sack with a few coins.
When the clergyman entered the cabin, that was the last time we saw him alive. No screams, no fight, nothing, he just took him away.
The only time we were able to see the creature was when it attacked the tavern and it ended up in flames that then spread to the rest of the town.
When we crossed the river to get to safety we saw him on the other side in the smoke-filled streets of the burning town, a tall, shapeless creature with six legs of different proportions each, where the head should be we only distinguished several mouths that laughed loudly with different voices and multiple arms protruding at random from his torso.
The next day, the nobleman in charge of those lands returned with a small army of two thousand men, cavalry, riflemen and artillerymen, all veterans of the wars in the east, and that same day, the magician and my soldier left for the adventurers' guild with the intention of replenishing our losses.
Five days later, when we returned, we found no one, not even the farm animals, only signs of struggle, dried blood, and doors torn off their hinges.

"...They called the beast Wind-Walker, they called it Voice of Flame.
It calls Men to destruction, it calls each one by name..."

The Grim Hollow Monster Grimoire contains a creature called a Quiet One. It perpetually generates an aura of silence, which is absolutely terrifying to me. The lore description of them says, "When you can't hear anything, you've heard them coming."

God I love how creepy the Lecroutta is. The idea of gnolls watching it, for fun. The hunger, the hunting for fun. Yeenoghu is one of my favorite demonlords

I though of this for a incounter :

You and your party return to the village you met a sweet little girl and her mother, the mother the says that her daughter when with some friends into the woods to go get some fire wood and play but none came back, later in the woods you hear the girl shout, "please help me" ,"mummy? Where are you?" And "its after me!" And as the party go to save her the see her corpse, turn limb from limb, but not just hers, tons of other children dead, the pack then makes then selves know with the stench smelling even worse then the rotting corpses, as they lunge at the party, roll for iniative.

I just realized that Red Riding Hood is the same story... Just for children... The wolf eating the grandma and then imitating her...🐺🐺🐺

Thing is, it is a fairly smart creature. So, play it smart. Make it hang around battlefields, and have it lure off individuals by sounding like a wounded ally. Always have it use cover, never revealing itself unless it wants to, and then only briefly. Have it intentionally leave a wounded person who is legit calling for help, to throw it's prey off. This works particularly well if the person was wounded by something other than the leucrotta (even a short fall off a ravine perhaps at night or in the fog works for this). Bonus points if you then create some chaos afterwards (another call for help?) and then it sweeps in on the divided and/or disorganized party (if NEVER assaults a position, it is driven by sadism, not just hunger), and drags off the wounded person they JUST rescued. Only to hear them calling, pleading for aid, from the nearby dark. Perhaps wounded more, having driven it off. At least, that's what the voice says...

Man that bear from Annihilation absolutely terrified me the first time, and it still gives me the heebie jeebies

Annihilation's Man-Bear might be the first leucrotta I seen, but my first proper leucrotta is the Na'Hashet from Tales of Kaimere
It's an entelodont that evolved to mimic noises and gallop across grasslands. Skilled man-eaters will use the cry and laugh of children to lure out parents. Often they'll copy the last words their human victims will make, with their opening video having a Na'Hashet repeating a parent begging it not to kill their child.
