Who are you? Your name does not come up on Google as an eye surgeon. This is important and demands an answer!

Very useful information. I have cataracts, but there is no urgency to my condition. I am toying with the idea of a Toric lens, but my astigmatism may not be severe enough to justify the treatment. When I discuss the actual operation with the surgeon, I will have these questions/concerns brought up so that I get the best option. I like how thorough you are in your explanation. I don't need a doctor to mess up the only two eyes I have!

My anterior ophthalmologist used ink marking, but that was about ten years years ago. He did check - or rather, had a colleague check - a week post-op, and my toric lenses were aligned within a degree. There were also four-week checks, one of them performed on the same visit as a pre-op exam on the second eye.

The doc uses intraoperative imaging now, or rather, adopted it before he retired. It was just coming on the line when my eyes were done, and not available in my area. The doc did keep up to date - he also applied an intracameral antibiotic before most docs were doing it. I don't know WHO he got to compound it.

I was cleared to drive in between the two surgeries, but I couldn't deal with the aneisikonia. (My correction in the other eye was -4.5 sphere -1.5 cylinder at that point, which is a pretty bad mismatch.)

My only complication was a posterior capsular opacification in one eye, and I learnt that's a 15-second procedure at the slit lamp, with immediate dramatic improvement in vision. I don't count the bilateral PVD with three retinal tears as a complication; the first one happend prior to the cataract intervention. Laserpexy was successful. The first one was performed on Christmas that year - and the ophthalmologist had to do three on the same day. He said he'd never operated on three retinal breaks on the same day before, much less Christmas!

I came out of the whole affair with 20/20 distant vision, 20/40 reading vision uncorrected, over-the-counter +1.5 diopter cheaters work for that. The last time I sat down at a slit lamp was with a new general ophthalmologist (my old one retired), who exclaimed, "oh, my, you have had a lot of surgery!" It may be just celebrating an excessive number of birthdays, but I blame in part the fact that I've had considerably more microwave exposure to the head than the average bear. Then again, I don't often see a bear in a physics lab.

No regrets for the toric - guess I was one of the lucky ones.

I got the LAL because I didn't want to chance the toric. I loved the process of the LAL and fine tuning after surgery.

My toric lenses work absolutely fine. You will need an excellent surgeon and a lens that resists rotation. The lenses that resists rotation have frosted haptics or 4 different attachment points. When it rotates the surgeon can correct the rotation. That’s a surgical intervention but less risky than the cataract surgery.

My understanding: even if the toric lens is off weeks after surgery...you can correct your vision with toric contact lenses right? I am ok to wear contact lens...I know of a retina eye surgeon who wears bifocal contact lenses and she does surgery with them on.

Wish I had been able to see this video prior to my recent cataract surgery and placement of Torri lens with astigmatism. My left eye is especially bad over two weeks after surgery, but she just gave me more steroid drops. I simply feel I was screwed over and it’s too late to change now.

In the description it says he doesn't see patients or do consultations.

Hi,Dr. Harrish,
Thanks for in detail information.
I was operated by a surgeon for cataract surgery followed by J&J puresee edof toric lens one month ago ( gap of one week between two surgery). I had -5.25 and -6.00 cylinder before surgery.after surgery power remaining is -1.5 cylinder in left eye and -0.5 cylinder in right eye. Left eye vision is slightly blurry (right eye vision is satisfactory)for distance but binocular vision for watching tv , reading newspapers and operating mobile is okay. Now Dr. Has suggested me either wearing glass or LRI procedure for left eye vision to correct upto -0.75 cylinder.pl.advice.

Thank you for these hard nosed videos. I am 84 and looking at cataract surgery, although two ophthalmologists have told me it is not urgent. I am noticing changes but I can still do everything from sewing to gardening to driving---with myopia/astigmatism/glasses. I have been watching cataract/IOL videos for a couple of years now and I am wondering why you started your own video series. Maybe to up the level of both information and timing, from what is currently available?
