I researched the cataract surgeries and IOLs for one full year before deciding. I went through many, many, many YouTubes. Alcon and J and J have lens simulators on them which I used several times also. The IOL Advisor site has an 8-question quiz on it to help you decide too. Based on ophthalmologist's info on lifestyles, occupations, etc. on these YouTubes, I chose a mono focal lens and manual surgery. I got the Eyhance II Toric lens and could not be any happier!!!! I also had a great surgeon also. I am a one-eyed person so no matter what IOL I got, I would be wearing glasses as they are used for eye protection too.

I paid extra for a toric lens. I have had a tiny amount of vertical monocular double vision ever since. Years later it's barely noticeable my brain mostly ignored it.

So glad I watched this! I'm about to have DMEK for Fuchs with cataract surgery and have been debating about mono vision for my cataract lenses,

I had LASIK on both eyes to treat astigmatism 20 years ago. Used reading/computer glasses afterward. Sustained 20/20 vision in both eyes until last year. 18 months ago, retina randomly detached in one eye without any symptoms (was actually discovered by coincidence with my annual eye exam). Retina was skillfully reattached. Regained 20/20 vision again in that eye. Was advised following the retina reattachment surgery that the eye would likely develop cataracts in a year or so. Just like clockwork, it did. Am awaiting cataract surgery consultation but unless the surgeon recommends a better option, I just plan to have the basic monofocal distance lens put in to restore the 20/20 vision in that eye. Examination of the other eye currently suggested that it may not develop a cataract for a decade or more, if ever (but of course, never any guarantees). A big plus? The monofocal distance lens will be 100% covered by insurance; any other option will require a significant out-of-pocket payment, upwards of $6-8k depending on the type of lens.

In the meantime, my eye doctor prescribed a contact lens for the cataract eye that corrects the vision until I can have surgery. When I'm wearing it, it's as if I don't have a cataract in that eye at all.

Thank you, Dr. Harris - I appreciate the helpful advice. As an artist who also drives at night and has been a bit nearsighted since around 16, I was put off by a potential surgeon who did not welcome questions about lifestyle as well as eye health. I am particularly inclined now to make sure my eyes are investigated for dryness as well as all else you mentioned before I undergo any surgery. Thank you.

I'm 74 yrs and have prisms in my glasses. They tell me I have the most prisms available. Started with lazy eye as a child. It corrected but then returned as I aged. My opthmologist sent me to an eye surgeon who is offering strabismus surgery. I'll be thrilled tp have it fixed but I'm concerned. I also had cataracts implanted years ago but now have floaters. What do you think? 😊😊☺️

Great video, I learned so much from this, I have healthy eyes and do wear glasses and at 65 I have the very start of cataracts forming and I am thinking about what to do when the time comes for intervention, I am in Portland, Oregon. Best to you Dr. Harris.

During my recent vision checkup my eye Dr. suggested I see a surgeon for consultation regarding cataract surgery. In the last 6 months my distance and night vision has gotten worse. I did get a new Rx for glasses which improved my vision somewhat, but still not where I would like to be. What should I be aware of and what to ask? Than you.

My brother has been watching your YouTube videos and shared. I had cataract surgery last summer with multi-focal lens implanted, shortly there after maybe 4-6 weeks later the vision wasn’t sharp anymore so I had the YAG laser done to both eyes. All was fine that day and the next morning my left eye was blurry, right was fine. It was determined that I had CME. I used prescription drops for a month and the swelling disappeared. My left eye hasn’t been right since the cataract surgery and by the way have pretty severe dry eyes which I have had for years. Vision was getting bad again and it was determined that the vitrious gel was leaking out and causing vision and sensitivity to light issues. On 4/29 I had an anterior vitrectomy done to clean things up. Vision was clear for a few days after then blurry but ok. About a week ago I noticed vision trouble again and have a CME again, prescribed drops and shown the macular puckering. Interested to hear your comments
