  I had a bunch of little fabric scraps at home that I just couldn’t bring myself to throw away, so I decided to turn them into this little rug. 🧵✨ I love finding a new purpose for things we already have at home, and this project was the perfect way to give those leftover fabrics a second life.<br><br>With a toddler running around, this project took me a little longer than I expected. 😅 While I was making it, there were definitely moments when I thought, “Why didn’t I make it smaller?” But when I finally finished it and saw how beautiful it turned out, I completely forgot how tired I was. ❤️<br><br>And seeing how much my little girl loved it made it even more special. 🥰<br><br>Thank you so much for staying until the end of the video and sharing this little project with me.   This was called a &apos;rag rug&apos; when I was a kid in the 50&apos;s. Girls were expected to know how to make them.

  In the 1930s and 40&apos;s these rugs were made by homemakers from theirs and their husbands and their children&apos;s worn out clothing. Wool coats, wool pants, wool suits, alot of wool. That&apos;s mostly all clothes were made of. And the rugs were made the size of a room of the house. Approximately 9&apos; - 10&apos; oval. <br>All sewn together by hand with <br>heavy-duty carpet warp (heavy plied cotton) or strong linen cord/thread. The rugs outlived their makers and were passed down to two more generations, for a total of three generations of hard usage.

  I remember my aunt made a similar type of rug that was their living room rug, back in the 1950&apos;s. It was woolen and made from scraps of old pants and tops. She&apos;d lived through the depression and this was common to do even before that time. It was quite beautiful.

  Using a bias maker to join the fabric and batting will make the job easier. Colors are beautiful.

  My grandparents’ generation all made “rag rugs”, and I grew up with a few of them still in use. Very durable, nowadays “county chic” lol… however, they braided the fabric strips together, instead of wrapping it around something, then curled it into shape.
