The Source was more of a nail in the coffin because the franchise was already killed before. The thing with Highlander is it was a one and done movie story. They started effing it up the moment they made sequels. Highlander is a perfect example of Hollywood's greed. They took a story with a definitive end and tried to extend it with stupid plot points and retcons. The failure of the franchise was guaranteed from that point on.

The best way to enjoy the Highlander film series is to watch the first one. That's it. The rest has always felt like fan fiction.

I remember starting to watch it on Sci-Fi channel with a few fellow Highlander fans. We had no idea that there was a new movie out and got super excited. Then we saw that part where the dude got hit with a car and yelled “Hello Joe” as he was flying away. We all cracked up laughing, saying “what the hell was that?” And then changed the channel.
