Shawshank Redemption is a perfect example of a movie with a cultural impact, that is the complete opposite of Avatar. SR did not do well when it was released, but people still talk about it today as being a fantastic film.

I think the problem here is that Hollywood stopped learning from their mistakes. In the last decade, whenever something doesn't work they keep doubling down on it and whenever something did work (Joker comes to mind) they try to change it. <br>When you reward failure and punish success, things will always end poorly.

It's not just that people "don't care" about actors' political opinions, people have actual disdain for them.  People who are struggling to make ends meet, struggling to live at a reasonable standard, people who are sick of being ignored by the political class on various matters, people who are sick of being taxed to hell for little return, they don't want to be lectured to by people who are not affected by the same issues, people who are insulated from the realities that everyone else suffers, yet are so narcissistic that they think they even have a right to lecture anyone else.
