I understand that tastes differ, but Howl's Moving Castle at number 18 is wild...

With Howl's Moving Castle it's about Sophie being dissatisfied with her life as it was in the hat shop, she didn't feel the need to break the spell after spending time in Howl's Castle because she had found that that is the kind of life she had wanted. That's okay if you hated the movie, but I liked it (even though it didn't really follow the book).

My grandad was a photographer/filmmaker/cinephile. In 1989 Laputa (British name for CitS) was broadcast on TV and he recorded it to show me when I was young. I can remember him explaining how good it was and how much I’d enjoy it.
It’s still my favourite Ghibli film, probably one of my favourite films period.

Castle in the sky is the first Studio Ghibli movie I ever saw and it's stuck at my number 1 ever since. I have such a special place in my heart for most of these movies. The artwork, the music, the vibes, all of it is perfect. I feel like there is no wrong answer for your favorite of these movies (except Earwig, everyone can agree its terrible) I think your favorite depends on where you were in your life when you first watched it. My Neighbor Totoro feels like nostalgia personified, Grave of the fireflies is like a really personal war film, each has beautiful story telling, but the vibes are completely different and yet also super similar. There is this magical down to earth storytelling to these films, this way that they halt the story and action to just let you sit in the moment, in the vibe of the story they are telling. Howl's moving castle has this moment when Sophie is sitting out by a lake after all her cleaning is done and it's like taking a deep breath. You feel the calm after the storm, you feel her age and the scenery and the peace as she starts to come to terms with her curse. Or there's the moment when Potsu and Sheeta finally land on Laputa and they just stand there over looking everything. We just had this huge action scene and then, like the main characters, we slam into Laputa and everything goes quiet and we are given time to adjust to this new place and the majesty of it. These films are magical and more people should be watching them.

Love the video, and I respect your takes and opinions.
Just want to say to anyone watching the video and reading this comment, if your opinion is the same or different, you are correct. Ghibli is so wide in themes and tones, it creates stories for everyone.

Actually you can’t guess who Haku is to Chihiro, but you can guess he’s a river spirit, because his true form looks like the other river spirit from the bath scene. That was a clue that’s hard to notice, but it is still there.
