What is the best financial decision you’ve ever made?

I was broke and struggling. I only had 2 lava lamps. Next thing you know, I watched a few finance YouTubers and cut out all my unnecessary spending, cleared out my bad debt. Now, I have more lava lamps than I know what to do with. Every room has at least 4 lava lamps, and I'm now starting my own lava lamps wholesale store.

The best financial decision I've made is marrying someone with the same frugality level as me. We trust each other with our future financial decisions.

In 2024 I paid my car off and paid my credit card off. No debt!! It feels so good. Now I’m just saving

I drive a 24 year old Honda Odyssey. Paid cash 10 years ago. She isn’t pretty but she gets me to work, Costco and the grocery store. That’s all I need.

One of the best advices that still sticks with me is the clarification: “Living below your means includes having FUN below your means.”

I don’t remember who told me that, but I swear I’ve heard too many people acting like having fun is either banned or exempted the means limitation.

I’m a parent of a 37 year old man. If he needed/wanted to move home for any reason including financial, he’s more than welcome. That’s what parents do.

My financial advice: choose your partner wisely. If you want to save and build towards financial independence, make sure you choose a partner who is on the same page so you can work together to reach that goal. Don't just take their word for it, make sure that their actions back up what they're agreeing to. Financial issues are a major conflict in relationships and if you are the one who wants to save, it will be one step forward and 2 steps back if you have a partner who is working against you. The system is set up to make it easy to get into debt (gambling, credit, etc.) and in most cases you won't be able to out save a spouse who is bad with money, they will drag you down with them.

As a young person you always think you want to work 100% and go really hard, but as you get older you realize that you just dont have that kind of power and drive anymore. That's another good reason to live below your means when young and chill out a little later.

If you saw me in my plain Walmart clothes, driving my ford fiesta 5-speed, you wouldn’t know I have $2,165,000 in investments. I’m proud of that. Stay humble people.

Zac, you could film your lava lamps while doing a voiceover about shapes and sizes and we would watch it.
