Using spread ancient DNA and genomics this male lineage can be tracked from mammoth hunters of the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic hunter-gatherers like Cheddar Man to the Neolithic farmers and monument builders of Stonehenge. I2a survived migrations and population change, including the spread of R1b and R1a among the Corded Ware and Bell Beaker Indo-European migrations of the Bronze Age, and expanded through Slavic-era Europe and became especially common in the modern Balkans and Sardinia. This is the story of the most enduring European male lineage.
