Understanding Mesopotamia using only the Bible is like looking at Carthage purely through Roman eyes, you're only getting one side of the story. With archaeologists unearthing and deciphering clay tablets, we now have a much clearer, first-hand look into their real world.

That was fascinating and your guest was a wonderfully eloquent narrator of the history of this amazing time period and place.

I have come to the conclusion, that the internet more and more is just horrible political and religious extremist screaming and AI rubbish, so i use it less and less, but there are exceptions, and this channel is one of them. As a danish history nerd, i really enjoy listening to this.🙂

What a delightful and enlightening podcast! Professor Llewellyn-Jones is an erudite scholar with a deep understanding of his field, but what I particularly admire is his remarkable ability to humanize the ancient past and bring its history to life.

I have had the pleasure of seeing him several times on Tristan Hughes’ podcast, The Ancients, and I have always marveled at his depth of knowledge and the remarkable ease with which he brings the ancient world to life. His enthusiasm, clarity, and storytelling make even the distant past feel remarkably vivid and accessible. Thank you Dan Snow for bringing the Professor to us.

I had the pleasure of being taught by Dr Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones whilst at Exeter University. I also attended a university trip to Egypt with Dr Llewellyn-Jones as the tour leader. I was pleasantly surprised to hear him on the History Hit today, although it just made me wish I listened more during his lectures 😂

We should think of Babylon as we think of ourselves. They are Us, and like them, we're going to leave both a good smell and a bad smell in History.

Awesome video, just one correction, if i may ; Babylon was situated 50 miles south of modern day Baghdad, not to north. Probably, your guest meant Baghdad is 50 miles north of ancient Babylone.
