We examined the artillery, the terrain, the timing, and the reserves. After watching, do you believe Pickett’s Charge was doomed from the start—or was there a realistic path to breaking the Union center? Share your thoughts below👇

Only a general advance could have possibly made a difference but Lee was not about to risk his army with such a command. No general advance meant union gunners along the line didn't have to concern themselves with anything to their immediate front and so could pour their fire into the one point the confederates were attacking. Obviously Lee was as concerned, possibly more concerned, with being able to eventually retreat, which he did.

It was Fredericksburg in reverse....I surprised Lee didnt realize this! Perhaps if Stewarts cavalry had not been turned back a pincer movement could have changed the outcome....

Questions like this only make sense if the WHEN is specified....
One hour before the "start" is likely to have about the same chance as the real event regardless of likely theoretical changes
One week before the "start" is not very likely to make sense unless the impact of theoretical changes can remain foreseeable throughout the run up to the "start".
