The worst part about it is that AliExpress clearly allows the shenanigans to go on because it's been going on forever

The scummy thing with the prices has become so normal to me that it's more of an annoyance now. I have many similar local e-commerce websites here that do the same thing. Some people even list wires and cables so people click on for example a GPU. Why does it cost so low? Then sees the cable for sale on the same listing. This is because the price that is lowest gets the price that shows up up front.

One thing I realized after using some extensions is that it's quite difficult to track the prices. Because of the "Variants," as they call it, apps and extensions track the up-front price and not the other prices of the other variants. So if the listing includes a 3060, 3070, 3080, then the lowest one gets tracked.

I do see some not-so-tech-savvy people get tricked into this, like my parents. Also, if anyone asks, why not regulate them? Well... for me third world country and the fact you can just lobby or buy off people to keep doing this. Plus, these websites are foreign websites, like China, so you can't just police them on their own website other than outright banning them in which you lose the ability to even buy from them in the first place.

Just to clarify something, some of those listings were also for modded versions of the 4090D, the version of the card with reduced performance for the Chinese market, rather than the 4090.

I have gone down this rabbit hole before. You need to look at the description. It will tell you what each of the "Colors" are. They don't want a chargeback, so they do put all the information in the listing, you just have to read the full listing. Very annoying.

You can actually report sellers that do that shit, and never cancel the order yourself let them cancel the order

And they're usually on custom carrier boards that can be pretty sketchy. I had a client hire me to transplant two 4090 cores to new boards with VRAM pads on both sides, and they were both liquid cooled. When I finished, and flashed the modded BIOS, both 4090s had 48GB, and I'm assuming they're running them together, so 96GB. Pretty sick actually. The boards were $250 each and that included the water block. What a weird timeline this is.
