Not just a great Operator, but the definition of a true “Quiet Professional.” He kicked down a LOT of doors in the Army EOD Community and Special Operations. Army EOD, for many years, refused to let their Techs play anywhere outside the traditional Line and Block charts. Being the first to go “over the fence”, he was told often “you do XYZ and your career is over.” He also took a lot of shit from Big EOD by becoming an Assaulter because often his Rater couldn’t even read his NCOER, so therefore they assumed (or acted as if) he was a shitbag. He is one of the reasons that SOF is a specialty in the Army now. I’m sure Charlie also had a tough time getting his Assaulters into EOD School because as far a Big Army was concerned, every slot that went to an Operator was one less slot that went to Big EOD. Far more important than any decorations he earned, he was a true trailblazer. Today’s Soldiers have no idea just what kind of paper wars he had to fight just to make “dual hatted” Operators a possibility. He did more to improve the Army than most Generals!

You provided a spotlight on a Soldier that truly earned respect of the highest regard. A Career Soldier serving with honor and distinction. He achieved the highest NCO Rank next to a Command Sgt. Major <br>You have a great channel with substance. Thank You and the Vets associated with this program.🇺🇸

In the 90's... we trained with EOD from Hurlburt Field in FWB, FL... as a city fd... we responded to calls with EOD... in one of the classroom training courses... I put on a EOD suit... it was HEAVY!!! The instructor kicked me in the back and I fell to the ground... he started yelling at me to get to my feet... I couldn't no matter what I did... it showed all of us civilian ff's the immediate danger those guys face... just wearing the gear... I'm sure its different now in 2026... crazy times watching this video.

He was in Cambodia the same time my Pop (a PL in ‘70) was, and confirmed to me he worked alongside the Grunts of the 199th Light Brigade.
