Hey everyone, this video has been hit with copyright claims because of The Order: 1886's soundtrack, so if it's swarming with ads feel free to do what you must. I don't make money off YouTube ads either way, proper support links are available in the description.
And if you want to see more of my work, you can right here (Some of the videos are even good!): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV6ooCT2Het7pTTJr2bo2cQPGXu3XQ6iu
Enjoy!

The thing that baffled me throughout the entire video is that they mention using non-lethal force within the first chapter, and then never give you the option or a tool to do so. They even point out that you might be/are killing innocent civilians! I suspect it was something cut during development, but the option to go through the game without killing everyone would have helped alleviate some of The Order: 1886's tonal issues.

Werewolves and vampires are two monsters that can blend in plain sight and can do serious damage on a rampage. If they were focused on as enemies, then it makes sense that they could be revealed in a public area and harm civilians. It would create interesting conundrums for the player, as stronger weapons could take down these beasts faster but possibly result in more casualties, while precision weapons would reduce the chance for collateral, but taking time to aim and the potential of missing gives the beasts more time to kill innocent civilians. It would paint the Order as an organization that is ultimately noble, but whose members are forced to make morally difficult choices sometimes, which if done well could be intriguing.

It would also make the decision to have some of your enemies the poor and downtrodden less disgusting. The player could be given the option to go out of their way not to kill anyone, and if they do decide to use lethal force then it is on their hands to do so rather than the developers forcing them to. If a firefight does occur, the player could try to find nonlethal means to end the encounter at the risk of their own life, or they could shoot back with the justification of self defense. When done right non-lethal mechanics enhance the kind of choices you have in games and can lead to engaging situations and conundrums, which The Order: 1886 could have certainly used more of.

I'm not pretending that non-lethal mechanics are perfect. They are sometimes memed on for good reason for how many times the actions or attacks would actually kill someone in real life. There are also some games where they can be forced or don't add much. But in The Order: 1886's case, I believe they would have gone a long way in making the protagonist less despicable and the actual gameplay more engaging.

Gotta love stumbling on a content creator making long form content out of the blue. Even better when they have a backlog of videos I've never seen. Instant sub from me. Commenting to hack the algorithm as unlikely as that is to ever actually help.

1:16:05 It's that atrocious kind of pseudorealism in videogames that says "Look, don't touch".

Every scant time I think about the Order 1886, I get surprised again at how old the game actually is because it still looks like a game that could come out today. Being reminded it was contemporary with Bloodborne is always especially wild because as much as Bloodborne is a better game in basically every way I don't think of it as looking anywhere near as stunning as Order 1886 does.

Heard it was 6 hours long and cost 100 aussie bucks. Literally NO one mentioned werewolves and I did not find that out until 2 years ago.
