That music...that era. My young teen memories run deep in my 68 year old brain. CCR was a huge part. Their music plays in the background of those memories. John Fogerty was awesome.

The band was only one man in the end. John wrote the songs, played lead guitar, and did the vocals. That’s been proven by the fact that he’s better when performing as John Fogerty today with better technology. I’m so glad that he recovered and returned to performing. I’ve seen him 3 times in Australia. I still remember the spine tingles the first time when he opened with Born on the Bayou. Plus we’ve played his more recent album, with all the Creedence songs, heaps of times in the car.

Artists ripped off by labels is such a shame.

It was 1983 and I was a folk singer living in Berkeley. Near Cal Campus was a pizza place called La Vals, and there was a stage and tables for dining. During my first set the waitress whispered to me, "Willy, John Fogerty is sitting at a table in the corner." I looked to the dimly lit area and saw him and decided to sing "Lodi." Halfway thru the song, I see John walking toward the front of the stage. He stops and offers a friendly smile and watches me sing for about thirty seconds. I'm a little star struck and too shy to say anything. Then he gives me a nod and leaves the club. Those were the days!

John was the driving force. He wrote, he arranged, he produced everything. He didn't start out as a tyrant, he gave every opportunity to the others to contribute songs
