  I&apos;ve been in a motivation slump for the past several months, so thanks for these videos! I finally got around to watching both of them. Your Japanese is always nice to listen to.<br><br>I sometimes think it&apos;s embarrassing to look back and see oh, I started casually learning like 9 years ago, but I&apos;m still at such a low level in speaking and comprehension... But when looked at as a lifelong thing, it doesn&apos;t really matter how many years you&apos;ve been at it if you keep improving even a little, and it helps to know you can improve a lot in a short time if the need arises. It&apos;s pretty difficult to study and stay motivated with a language you don&apos;t really have a need for using or understanding on a daily basis. If you can foster that need with a close friend, or a job, or even a traditional classroom with other learners, it&apos;s better than any other motivation. Without the need, it&apos;s so easy to have long periods of no study. Pretty much what you mentioned in the first video about not studying as much after returning from Ireland. <br><br>I like your suggestion to think about what you can do more than what you can&apos;t do. The only downside I see is that if what you can do is already &quot;good enough&quot; for a lot of situations, that can lower motivation to improve, until a strong enough desire or need to handle more situations comes around. At least I think it does for me. Even if I know I&apos;m visiting Japan again, that seems to only motivate a short burst of review, I think because in the back of my mind I know I can get by alright with what I already know.<br><br>State of the art AI tools are both a blessing and curse as well...

  I find it hard to keep up the motivation because the progress you make is so slow and gradual that it&apos;s hard to tell what progress you&apos;ve made over a short time span. Knowing this, I&apos;ve squeezed the core of my japanese learning into my daily routine, instead of relying on motivation to study in my spare time. I listen to an appropriate level podcast on my way to and from work and during lunch when I also to my Anki-reviews. This will net me at least an hour of podcast listening + Anki every weekday, and when my motivation is up, I will watch videos like this on my free time. I also try to keep my expectations low about noticing progress, and focus more on being adamant about sticking to my daily routine, because the rewards WILL come, and you WILL notice your progress. For me, it&apos;s rewarding to watch this video and beign able to follow along completely without any aid. I know for sure that going back 1.5 years, this video would have been WAY too high level for me.

  私にとって明らかな目的があれば、やる気が上がりやすいと思います。<br>日本に住むことを決めたとき、勉強時間が増えたり、勉強方法も工夫したりしました。<br>つまり、もっと効率的に勉強できるようになりました。
