I was camped deep in the Northern California forest when someone circled my truck and started shooting. Wild animals don’t scare me, people do

I have had this happen to me twice in the last three years. The first incident was in the evening still daylight and I had someone shooting toward my camp "rounds landing close". I yelled as loud as I could then honked the horn on the truck. They didn't stop shooting so I quickly picked up camp and left the area.
The last time this happened was last September and I was camped in a timbered area where people boondock from time to time . I had people setup a camp about 350 yards from me. I was out on a mountian bike ride and heard multiple shots in the direction of my camp. Riding back to my camp on forest roads I saw this camp close to me had set up a target and were firing high-powered rifles and my camp behind through the timber. I ask them to stop shooting towards my camp thinking surely they would stop shooting my direction. After talking to these campers I went back on my bike ride, not 5 minutes later I hear shots again. I rode back toward there camp and stopped about 75 yards away and took a video of them shooting towards my camp again. I rode a safe direction away and called the Sheriff Department. After the Deputys had a meeting of the minds with these morons I packed up camp and left the area.
Keep your head on a swivel and stay safe my friend🤠

When I was young, the family went fishing in a stream along side a higher up gravel road in eastern Oregon. Some vehicle drove by. Shots fired off and my 2 brothers and I watched bullets plinking just feet away from us. It happen too quick to be scared. There are some crazy, dangerous people out there!

73 year old / 20 years RV'er here. I'd always keep an outsite light on, ( that way anybody will know somebody else camped out there ) I always travel with my .44 revolver and a 12 gauge shottgun, The .44 is always concealed carried on me, I perfer revolvers, No safety, no slide, no forgetting if there's a round in the camber, the bad guy can see that the bullets in the side chambers, if your holding him off at gun point. (I was robbed down in Mexica 50 years ago, and seeing those bullets in the side chambers definately is intimidating) Do NOT go outside and confront anyone. The shotgun is only for last defense if somebody is breaking in your door.

Not so much to deal with this situation but when friends and I are out in the mountains with a campsite I use a portable electrical fence. It will knock a grizzly on his backside. It’s a bear fence. Battery powered and lightweight they run a couple hundred bucks. It’s a good way to keep wild animals and intruders at a distance and give a good amount of time to react. They run a perimeter of 40’x40’.

With the advent of thermal night vision rifle scopes you cannot hide from any assailant. I would have set tight inside with all my firepower at hand and turn off all the lighting. Wait for what's gonna happen next. I was out on a lone stretch of road in the afternoon going for a bicycle ride which I did everyday (Florida 1980's). Two young men in a pickup truck pulled up ahead of me and got out then wielded knives threatening me with bodily harm. I reached into my back shirt pocket, pulled my revolver and peppered them with snake shot (2 rounds). The next 4 rounds were hollow points which I didn't have to use. This was prior to cell phones. I took the tag number and description of the truck then rode back into town and reported to the sheriffs department. I learned in the Army to be ready for trouble when it comes your way.

I'm an Army veteran, public safety officer, and first responder. I hope you find one of my suggestions helpful. Did you know that you can purchase a light bar through various sources to put on your vehicle? There are several colors you can purchase to have on a light bar including white, yellow, green, and amber (blue lights are usually associated with police/law enforcement and red is usually associated with firefighters, EMTs, or paramedics so I wouldn't select blue or red unless you are law enforcement or a first responder). If your light bar is correctly installed on your vehicle, you can turn it on immediately to serve as a visual announcement of your presence. An additional benefit to having the light bar, is that if your vehicle ever breaks down on the road at night, you can use the light bar to alert approaching vehicles to your presence and predicament. Have you ever considered using a spot light at night? A vehicle-mounted or handheld spot light is a very powerful and focused beam of light you can use to illuminate people, animals, objects, obstacles or other things (bigfoot?) when you are off-road (for example, when you are camping). The spotlight beam is also very helpful for blinding any unwanted camp site intruders (man or beast) giving you the upper hand in a confrontation. Have you ever used a megaphone? You can purchase a vehicle mounted megaphone or handheld megaphone. A megaphone is very useful for loudly informing others of your presence or to issue warnings such as warning others to stay away from your vehicle or camp site. Sometimes, there is nothing more shocking to a criminal or intruder then when an unexpected loud voice lets them know they have been seen or heard and warns them to leave the area because their presence is unwelcome. If you want to be more stealthy when confronting others you should consider night vision equipment. Are you familiar with night vision equipment? Many people purchase night vision equipment for outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, or camping at night. We often used night vision equipment during night time tactical training when I was in the Army. Night vision equipment is very effective and useful for detecting and observing others at night without giving away your presence. This gives you a strong advantage in many situations. In summary, the items I discussed are available through various sources including outdoor sporting goods stores, military surplus vendors, law enforcment or first responder vendors, auto parts stores or vendors, and even Amazon.com! I hope at least one of the items I discussed will be useful to you or your subscribers. Lastly, but most importantly, please check your local, state, and federal laws to ensure your appropriate compliance before you buy or use any of the items I discussed. Otherwise, stay safe and enjoy your travels! P.S. Tell bigfoot I said hello!
