As a curious fact, in Mexico the Virtual Boy was selling so poorly that with the purchase of a SNES you got the Virtual Boy for free.

The red and black graphics make all the games look like a portal to Hell.

When you ask this question, the natural follow up question is always 'What DIDN'T happen?''

so many people tell this story in a way that makes it sound like Yokoi's "one big failure" -- maybe because that's a compelling story? But I really appreciate you researching it properly and speaking on the, somewhat obvious, reality that his team were handed chicken shit and told to make chicken salad.

The rise and fall of the virtual boy shows that even if you are first, you may just be too early for the market.
