I just have one leopard gecko with a mesh top enclosure and no humidity issues, and I still was fascinated by all your thoughtful info on balancing humidity and ventilation. He does seem to enjoy the rush of fresh air when we visit in the evening and open the front door!

This was so good! What a value and it’s nice to hear science behind these concepts and what we are ultimately trying to do for our animals. Thanks so much!!!

Hey! I absolutely loved this !! I have Chameleons and I am part of the Chameleon Academy community. We love our Fogging, lights, misting and fans. I do Fog my snakes, Geckos and of course all my Chameleons. Would be happy to answer any questions and help. I did really enjoy this and wish more people knew about using fans and fogging ❤❤ <br>Janet

Love this topic. I’m currently in the process of adjusting ventilation as I had too much. The comment about having house humidity at 30 and lower while I’m over here with a dehumidifier running 24/7 and can’t get below 65% 😅.

Good video but I disagree about Reptifiles being a good source of info. That site recommends switching off all heating at night in a boa constrictor enclosure. To anyone reading this, NEVER turn your Boa's heating off while they are being fed or digesting. It will cause regurgitation, which can then spiral into a cycle ending in death in a lot of cases. I recommend reading from multiple sources.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDY_AR0MvWA&t=5239">1:27:19</a> So how does this work then? Wouldn't you then be taking away the necessary heat gradient by setting the thermostat to shut off when the cool side reaches the highest temp allowed for that animal?<br>Or do you mean setting it to the highest temp allowed for the cool side?

Question - I’m building a 4x2x4 ball python bioactive enclosure. I’m planning a deep substrate layer to help with temps and humidity. It’s a screen top and I’m thinking the best way to deal with ventilation and temp/humidity regulation is to put a a couple vents toward the bottom and cover <b>some</b> of the screen top, not all. (With the option of adding fans in the future if needed). Would this be the best plan moving forward?

I'm looking at getting a Screen+Vents style enclosure, and trying to plan for making it bioactive, for a ball python. You mentioned that you use drywall tape to help seal the side vents better. I have two questions related to that. Most drywall tape is made of fiberglass, is that not an issue for the snake? And is drywall tape sufficient for keeping the cleanup crew from escaping?

I just got two pvc cages from Vivarium electronics and they have metal screen tops, I bought a humidity mat from same brand for one of the cages (for ball python) is it not a good idea to use the mat now? I’m getting paranoid after watching this video! 😂
