Val was just so awesome as Doc Holliday. The fact he didn't win an Oscar is just criminal.

Doc: "I'll be damned. This is funny."
He always assumed he'd die with his boots on.

In an interview, Michael Biehn (Johhny Ringo) was asked what it was like working with Val Kilmer. Michael paused and said, "I didn't work with Val, but I DID make a movie with Doc Holliday."
The gambler that Doc stabs at the beginning was played by Frank Stallone, Sylvester Stallone's brother.
He was called "Doc" Holliday because he was trained as a Dentist before he started gambling.
His gun said, "To Wyatt Earp, Peacemaker"
There are multiple eyewitness accounts that say the shootout at the creek really did go down like that. Wyatt's coat had multiple holes in it from the bullets that missed him.

“Doc [Holliday] was a dentist whom necessity had made a gambler; a gentleman whom disease had made a frontier vagabond; a philosopher whom life had made a caustic wit; a long lean ash-blond fellow nearly dead with consumption, and at the same time the most skillful gambler and the nerviest, speediest, deadliest man with a gun that I ever knew.” Wyatt Earp

All of the mustaches were real, grown by the actors except for Behan's. John Tenney had just finished another project and didn't have time to grow his. And, of course, Sam Elliot was born with his mustache.

 - 24:14 - When you said, "Meet me at 3 o'clock," I laughed. The Gunfight at the OK Corral (starting at 26:31) occurred on October 26, 1881, at approximately 3:00 in the afternoon. It lasted about 30 seconds, and happened almost exactly as the movie portrays it. The fact that this is more of a historical movie, and that almost everyone in it was a real person, makes the outlandishness of some of the events even more bizarre.
Mattie Blaylock was Wyatt's common-law wife; they never stood before a parson or obtained a marriage license. After her death, Josephine was one of the few people who never spoke ill of her.
If ever an actor deserved to be nominated and win every award for Best Supporting Actor, it was Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday. His performance is nothing short of brilliant!

What's really significant about the first showdown between Ringo and Holliday in the Oriental is that Doc mimics every move Ringo made exactly. He not only defuses the situation with humor, but he's sending a message; I saw what you did, I was fast enough to follow it, and I'm good enough to copy it exactly on the very first try. It's a message that probably only Ringo actually catches, and you can see that it shakes him.

Ironically enough, my dentist is so fast, he pulled a bunch of my teeth that needed extracting so quickly, that i could barely start to panic when he had finished...

Normally dentists don't bother me, but i have issues breathing already from a connective-tissue disease, and was having a very bad day that day especially.

I began calling him "Doc" and explaining to him how he reminds me of Doc Holliday (who was also a dentist by day) with how quickly he worked. Gave him a book about the man to read. And now he's fully embraced the idea and even accumulated some gunfighter decor for his office. It makes me happy.
