doc could not lose this fight he would either kill Ringo, or he got to die the way he wanted and leave the world with his boots on. doc held the winning hand either way.

Doc knew he could beat Johnny Ringo since their interaction at the bar. He mimicked Ringos every move with a cup perfectly, while he was drunk and sick and sweating with fever. Ringo never stood a chance against Doc.

You’re right, when Ringo said … I was just foolin’ about. Was the moment Doc knew he had him. As soon as he said it, a big smile came across Doc’s face. Johnny showed his hand. You also have to remember that Doc was also a master at Poker, as in a master at reading people.

The satisfying part of this movie is that the bullies and bad guys get what’s coming to them. In real life it takes us to make this come to true. The bad guys keep us honest. They make us hold to our principles, they show us where we’re failing and we hate them for it. But maybe they’re necessary

I remember seeing this in the theater when I was a kid. Hearing Doc say "I'm your Huckleberry..." as he stepped out of the shadows was one of the greatest plot twists I had ever seen because Doc really did seem like he was down and out. And that little cough let's you know that he really is sick, but he ain't letting his only friend get put down by a man he despises.

Genius the way he backs Johnny into a corner. We didn't finish our game and this time it's legal give him no escape. Johnny has no excuse to not stand up and fight a fight he can't win.
